Teleportation :: essays research papers
Teleportation à à à à à If I had a chose between two superpowers, to turn invisible or flight, I would break the rules and choose to have the ability of teleportation. I was ready to answer right away, but I put some thought into this question, such as the capabilities and limitations of these superpowers. à à à à à If I fly, can I carry people or objects just by touching them (ala Superman 2)? Would I be able to carry something, someone equal to, or more than my own weight or would this be too much of a challenge while flying? I would probably worry about enough sufficient oxygen, since flying requires air to work, just as swimming requires water. The higher I go the more lack of oxygen, the slower I will travel in proportion to the thinning air, therefore no flying in space. In addition, it is very important to remember I am not invincible. Therefore, if I try to fly through a brick wall, I would definitely injure myself; this also applies if I collide with a plane or bird. If I would choose to be invisible, I hope that everything I am wearing will turn invisible too and I would not have to strip naked or anything. If other invisible people want to, fine, I am not going to stop them. More power to them for being comfortable with there body. I hope that this would not be required. If I am invisible, would I have a small invisibility aura surrounding me, and would the things caught in that aura go invisible? If I pick something up, does it turn invisible, or does it just float there or if I drop something, would it be visible again, whether I like it or not? For example, if I was wearing an invisible baseball cap, and threw it in the air, would it be visible after leaving my hand? In addition, would it be invisible again if I catch it? If I want that hat to be invisible, do have to tuck it under my shirt (ala Harry Potter's invisibility cloak), or turn visible and then back invisible to catch the stuff I am holding. Therefore, if I were going to choose this superpower, God forbid, if I rob a bank, and slip into the vault, I would have to stuff the money into my pants and shirt to avoid the cheesy movie effect of money floating out of the bank.

Pup 301
Parul Singh PUP 301 5th February 2013 Putting Greenways in My life The article ââ¬Å"Putting Greenways Firstâ⬠talks about how cities in America are trying to ââ¬Å"Go Greenâ⬠by investing in more parks, the planting of trees, and creating overall green neighborhoods and streets. These will encourage citizens to spend more time exercising outside rather than being cooped up inside in front of their television. In the 21st century, a lot of land is cut down and built on to serve as neighborhoods, shopping malls, government buildings and grocery stores as urbanization occurs due to high pressure of immigrants and population increase every year.These cities, such as Mumbai, often have little trees due to large population and no land to support the population. Though urban planners and locals alike have become more aware of the environmental issues affecting global warming, there has been a steady rise in different approaches to make cities beautiful, healthy and better place s to live in. The term ââ¬Å"Greenwayâ⬠comes to mind, as it is one of the first steps to making a city more environmentally friendly. Greenways are pedestrian streets like sidewalks, but instead of it being only concrete there is a high emphasis on vegetation.This creates both a visually attractive and comfortable setting for people to enjoy taking walks in contrast to taking the car. As the article suggests, low-density suburban sprawl may directly influence obesity rates in cities. Encouraging citizens to walk to school or use their bike by creating an attractive and pleasant environment may be one of the many solutions to lower obesity rates. As we see more development in our life, we can argue that the environment becomes more contaminated.There are around 20 billion tons of CO2 and other poisonous gases, like methane gas, that are absorbed by the atmosphere every year. This poisonous environment kills around 14 thousand people all over the world, for example if exposed t o methane gas, it causes dizziness, headache and nausea. This confirms that to achieve a healthy lifestyle at which people are not only wealthy but also healthy and safe, we need to find ways to protect our environment. Building a green city is thus a very sustainable strategy. I was born in India (Pune) and lived in Thailand (Bangkok) for all my life.These are developing equatorial countries where a lot of people live in the cities. So living in the cities of India and Thailand, I have always felt like there is not much greenery and the pollution in these cities is high. And every year whenever I go back to Pune, I always see there are more and more buildings; the land that is in the processes of being cleared. These cities are not growing sustainably or in a ââ¬Å"greenâ⬠way because India for example, has to put money in education, health care, and other thing in order to decrease the increasing population.America, on other hand prioritizes green way because they have alrea dy put a lot of effort and money on building schools and hospitals for its citizens. The issue in Phoenix and in Bangkok is that both places are hot. There are less outdoor events because of the heat. For example, people prefer playing tennis indoors than outdoors during summers, because they need to take extra precautions like putting sunscreen on their body to protect themselves from sun burns or carry extra water to keep themselves from getting dehydrated.In Bangkok, it is so humid that when you go outside for five minutes, people always take a shower. It is very time consuming to live in a place as hot as Bangkok or Phoenix because as it is really hot, people waste their time taking a shower twice or even three times a day, and this in turn wastes a lot of water. I went to Beijing, China in 2010, and I was shocked to see how well planned the city was despite the fact that it was still a developing city, with high population and very bad pollution. Approximately, Beijing city has around 40,000 trees.The trees are planted along the road and there is a pedestrian road, beside which goes into small green parks. The trees that are planted are all the same size, and during winter, the polythene sheets are wrapped around and thick ropes around the sheet protect the bark of the trees. I thought that it was a great way of making a city green, given the thought that it is not technically green because of the pollution. After reading the article, I thought that the ideas and examples given by Arendt in the article are solely based on America.Most American cities, compared to cities in developing countries, have a lower population per mile. People here like to settle in the suburbs of the city because they have bigger houses, more space where they can have their own gardens, which is a good idea considering the downtown of the city is noisier, polluted and has little vegetation. The article gave out a lot of examples of American cities where the planners are making ar eas of green parks, so people can spend quality time outdoors.They are also making public transports better, so people walk to the nearest train station or bus station. They have a lot of parks with walkways, where people can spend some time walking or jogging. This will make them fit and healthy. There are ideas like car-pooling, which is when two or more people share the same car to arrive at the same destination, so more than one person can travel in a car. It is seen as a sustainable way to travel, reducing carbon emissions and hence reducing peopleââ¬â¢s carbon footprint.In conclusion, I realized that the whole concept of greenways might be able to work in some cities, which are in Colorado or Florida, because of the climatic conditions, space to build parks and less population. But it would not work in developing countries because there is a lot of population ratio to little space. But measures can still be taken to create a more environmentally friendly atmosphere, for exa mple ââ¬â some companies in London are making their buildingââ¬â¢s roof top green by planting trees in order to have a green and sustainable environment, in order to decrease the carbon footprint.In some countries, the government does not think of environment as their number one priority, mainly because they do not have enough money to reinforce ideas such as greenways. On the other hand, in cities like Phoenix, we are able to plant more trees and build parks which can provide a lot of shade and have a little sprinkling water which can make people come out of their houses more often. Greenways give sustainable solutions to various cities with climatic traits.

Psychology And Economics On A Pre Med Path - 2947 Words
My name is Thanvi Vatti and I am a rising senior at Olentangy Liberty High School in Powell, Ohio. I intend to Major in Psychology and Economics on a Pre-Med Path. I am currently looking towards Cornell University, Ohio State University, Northwestern University as potential colleges. I have always been passionate about medicine especially obstetrics and gynecology. This is what I envision for myself past college and medical school. Antiphospholipid syndrome is quite fascinating in how rare yet severe it is. I chose antiphospholipid syndrome because I am currently working on a project with this disease at the Molecular Human Genetics Lab at Nationwide Childrens Hospital Research Institute. My interest has only grown, as it is a prevalent disease among pregnant women, leading to miscarriage almost every time. In the coming years, I hope to continue my research as well as attend a top college in training for my intensive career plans. Antiphospholipid Syndrome occurs when the human imm une system creates antibodies targeted towards membrane phospholipids or their related plasma proteins, which manifests as persistent venous or arterial thrombosis and/or fetal loss. Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is quite the hefty name, and its mechanism is just as intense. In the most simplistic way, APS deals with the human immune system. The same immune system that helps you feel better when getting a paper cut or the flu. The immune system works hard to help the body stay healthy. Disability, Mental, Emotional, Cognitive, And Traumatic...
A disability can be physical, mental, emotional, cognitive, sensory, and formative or some consolidation of these. Disabilities are the wide term, covering weaknesses, action restrictions and participation restrictions. Disability is an issue in body capacity or structure; a movement limitation is a trouble experienced by a person in executing an activity; while a participation restriction is an issue accomplished by a single person in inclusion in life circumstances. In this way disability is a complex reality, reflecting a connection between features of an individual s body and features of the general public in which he or she exists. (WHO 2012) An individual may likewise qualify as disabled on the off chance that he/she has had impairments in the past or is seen as incapacitated focused around an individual or group standard or norms. Such weaknesses may incorporate physical, mental, sensory, formative handicaps. Different sorts of sicknesses might likewise qualify as disability. A few backers item to describe certain conditions as disability, contending that it is more proper to think of them as formative contrasts that have been unsatisfactory by the general public. (Ladd, Paddy, 2003). A disability may happen during an individual s lifetime or may be available from conception. These methods vary based on whether the components are solid, liquid or gas. The most common known methods are as follows: 1. Distillation 2. Separating funnel 3. Filtration 4. Solvent extraction 5. Paper chromatography 6. Recrystalization 7. Evaporation 8. Sublimation DISTILLATION This is defined as the process of boiling a liquid and condensing and collecting the vapor. The liquid is collected in a distillate. It is used to purify liquids and to separate liquid mixtures. There are two main forms of distillation which are simple distillation and fractional distillation. SIMPLE DISTILLATION This is used to obtain a pure solvent from a solution; for example, pure water from sea water. The impure liquid is heated until evaporation which will produce a pure vapor. This vapor is condensed by cooling and the pure liquid is obtained. FRACTIONAL DISTILLATION This is used with liquids of similar boiling points. Effective separation can be achieved by using a fractionating column attached to the distillation vessel and filled with glass beads. Vapor from the liquid rises up the column until it condenses and runs back into the vessel. The rising vapor in the column flows over the descending liquid. The vapor in the column has more volatile components towards the top and the less volatile components at the bottom. Various fractions of the mixture can be drawn of the mixture can be drawn off at points on the column. SEPARATING FUNNEL One can use a separating funnel to separate a pair of immiscible liquids. This is due to the distinct layers between the two liquids, in which the more dense liquid will be at the bottom, while the less dense liquid will be at the top. FILTRATION This is defined as a method of separating suspended solids from liquids, which in this case means both liquids and gases. The solid may be an impurity to be removed from a liquid product, or the desired product, so the liquid can be discarded. The separation of water from soil can be an example where this type of separation can be used. A filter paper is used in the process of separation. When pressure is applied to the mixture, the solvent is pushed through a semi-permeable membrane which is the filter paper. The solute is then trapped in the filter paper whilst the solvent passes through, thus separating the former mixture. SOLVENT EXTRACTION This is defined as the process of separating one constituent from a mixture by dissolving it in a solvent in which it is soluble but in which the other constituents of the mixture are not. The process is usually carried out in the liquid phases, in which case it is also known as liquid-liquid extraction. In this process, the solution containing the desired constituent must be immiscible; that is, not able to mix; with the rest of the mixture. The process is widely used in extracting oil from oil-bearing materials. PAPER CHROMATOGRAPHY Paper chromatography is defined as a technique used to separate, purify or identify substances by allowing a solvent or solvent system to move over a strip of filter paper or chromatography paper containing these substances. A spot of the mixture to be investigated is placed on the edge of the paper. This point is known as the origin or baseline. Then, the sheet is suspended vertically in a solvent. The spot then rises or moves by capillary action carrying components with it. The components of the investigated spot move at different rates as they absorb differently. After the paper is removed and dried, there is a line of the different components, which also have spots on the line. The components can be identified by the distance they move in a given time. RECRYSTALLIZATION Solids are often pure when first prepared. This is when crystals of a solid are produced, usually from a saturated solution. In crystallization, a definite amount of the substance is dissolved in a specific amount of water in a beaker and is prepared to be heated. The solution is filtered since it is already hot. The insoluble impurities are then separated. Thirdly, the filtered solution is cooled to produce crystals of substances. The now obtained crystals are wet and so are dried by solar heating. EVAPORATION Evaporation is the transition of a liquid to a gaseous form under a temperature lower than its boiling point. The molecules in the water do not have enough heat energy to escape and so, as it gains enough heat, the liquid would turn to vapor. When a significant amount of heat is added to the liquid, it has enough heat energy to quickly phase to a vapor when the liquidââ¬â¢s boiling point is reached. The more energy added, the faster the molecules disperse. As they move this fast, the molecules collide, they take the heat energy they contain and therefore transfer such energy in different amounts. Because of the angle on collision, the transfer can have such an effect that it causes the molecule to escape the liquid as vapor. SUBLIMATION This method of separation is used to separate the solid which converts and reconverts from a solid to a gas from a mixture of solids. When the two compounds are gently heated, one substances collects on the base whilst the other substance, unaffected by heat, remains behind. The bonds are broken between the molecules and so turn the solid to gas and vice versa.

Actually im concerning about graphic design; so in here, I try to explain more detail about typography and graphic design, and combine it to make an implementation into business communication such as advertising. For instance, you can see it on the newspaper, magazine, and my essay that you are reading. However, if you want to make something that looks fun and attractive, you can use type of character that a little bit irregular shape. For example, you can see in the banner of distro store and clothing brand for teenager usually use it as their character of their brand. Actually I really like to learn about typography but my skill still is very limited. So, I always analyze many banners that usually found in the cross road and guess what actually they are trying to explain to the viewer and I found out that most of them really dont pay attention of this thing which is actually very important. Nowadays, graphic design become popular by the teenager to express their creation, imagination, etc. it is supported by many software that developed such as Coreldraw Graphic Design, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc. Graphic design is an art which combine many element such as shape, line, and colour. Behind it all, to be master of graphic design is not easy. In addition, a lot of practice is needed and the idea must also be able to continue to appear. And the most difficult part is the idea itself. Searching a clue about a good picture sometimes really difficult and frustrating. The idea is very expensive even it is simple. For instance, Nike takes millions of dollar in order to create their tagline Just do it. Now, I want to implement what I explained above in to advertisement. A good ad is an ad that can make a persuasive communication on the target market and it is able to package the product messages that fit on the target. Analytically, of course, it can not be done by graphic designers who only have an ability to operate the program. However, it takes a deep understanding of product understanding and the ability to build a character and identity of the product and then transform it into a visual form in a creative and communicative way, so it will be blended with the message and it can be received by the fixed market segment. In conclusion, visual communication is important if people want to communicate an information in different way. It is very effective and efficient if you can use it properly. There are some elements that you have to be focused when you want to make an advertisement such as typography and graphic design. In fact, some marketers actually overlook of this things. As we can see, many banners in the cross road that actually not interesting and tend to be bored, so people dont care about the banner and of course it is just wasting money for the marketer. However, if you want to use visual media; you have to concern of this thing so people can be interested of your ad.
